But music isn’t all that Nashville offers. There are plantation houses and historic sites to explore too, along with some of the best dining, shopping, and entertainment anywhere in the country.

Traveling to Nashville in your own vehicle? If you have a disability parking permit, you needn’t apply for a temporary permit during your stay, as Tennessee honors non-expired disability placards and plates from other states and countries. If you require a temporary permit, you may apply at any Tennessee DMV center. Alternatively, valet parking is available at most hotels.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum preserves the evolving history and traditions of country music. The museum is nicknamed the Smithsonian of Country Music because of its unrivaled collection of exhibits. Conveniently situated at the epicenter of the city’s rapidly growing core, the Hall of Fame houses walls of gold records, galleries dedicated to early Southern music, and memorabilia from the biggest names in the industry.
The museum offers self-guided audio tours, which take you through different eras of country music and provide behind the scenes stories, insider tips, personal memories and more. An entrance access ramp is located on the Fifth Avenue side of the building, and ramps are in place for wheelchair accessibility. A limited number of courtesy wheelchairs are available for visitors while they are touring the Museum, and because there is so much to see, you’ll want to have a mobility device of some sort to rely on while you’re there.
The Grand Ole Opry, an iconic live music concert, showcases a mix of country legends and contemporary chart-toppers. It has been called the home of American music and country’s most famous stage. Every year, thousands of people travel across the country and world to see the shows live. Everyone who’s anyone in country music has graced that stage, and it is every country singer’s dream to get to play there. The atmosphere is amazing and the music is world-class, making this show a must-see when visiting Nashville.
Catch the Opry at the Grand Ole Opry House from February to October, or during the Opry’s wintertime run at its most famous former home – the historic Ryman Auditorium – from November to January. Accessible seating is available at both venues upon purchase, and wheelchair lifts are available on the second level for access to the seating area.
The Parthenon is the centerpiece of Centennial Park, a large and beautiful urban greenspace located west of downtown Nashville. The building is a full-scale replica of the Parthenon in Athens, and inside you’ll find a huge gilded statue of Athena created by famed local artist Alan LeQuire. The Parthenon serves as the city of Nashville’s art museum, with the main focus of the collection being a group of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists. The museum also houses various temporary exhibits, as well as photographs that will give you an understanding of the city’s rich history.
The Parthenon offers floor maps to help visitors navigate the facility. The museum also provides guided tours to audiences of 10 or more upon request – just be sure to call or email in advance. It takes approximately 40 minutes to tour the Parthenon, and an electric scooter or wheelchair will ensure you see as much as possible. Once you’ve finished viewing the art, take the scooter outside and explore the gorgeous parklands too!
The Hermitage, the former home of President Andrew Jackson, is a National Historic Site located about a half hour drive from downtown Nashville. Since opening, it has welcomed over 15 million guests. A visit to The Hermitage includes a tour of the spectacular Southern gardens, the original mansion home, Jackson’s tomb, and a memorial to the enslaved people of the area.
With over 1,120 acres of majestic property, an electric wheelchair or scooter will ensure you see as much of The Hermitage grounds as possible. The Hermitage has a golf cart available to transport visitors from the Andrew Jackson Center to The Hermitage mansion, and the site is almost completely accessible. Motorized and non-motorized wheelchairs are welcome in the mansion. However, the size of the interior spaces prevents the use of electric scooters within the mansion. If necessary, visitors can transfer to a wheelchair provided by The Hermitage for their mansion visit.
